A piping note: I've recently had opportunities to hear the band practicing a medley of US military themes. I'd previously known the Marines' to be played convincingly on the pipes, & the Army's works too. Unfortunately the Navy & Air Force tunes sounded quite butchered, presumably to fit the instrument's limited melody range. So may we say that the bagpipe should stay on land?
