A note perhaps appropriate for the Stupor Bowl: There's a newly-infamous dopey (light) beer ad--making fun of dopey beer ads--running these days; I mention it because I'm told it features a relative of mine. The female on the left in the reaction shot is IDd as a granddaughter of one of my six maternal aunts. Word is she makes $100 every time it shows.

Incidentally, I'm also told light beer sucks!

Well, that was a rotten note to leave this blog hanging on for another month.

Since I'm not recording such mundane details as the weather, there isn't much to post these days except perhaps my piping progress. My tiny first-year class has begun working on our first tune: _Scots Wha Ha'e_. About this song, FWIW, I wish to relate a little story from the US Civil War, specifically about the 79th New York Regiment, known as the Cameron Highlanders. Seems the troops had a chaplain who misunderstood the name, saying, "Let's hear 'Scots Away.' So they nicknamed him "Old Scots Away."

And (to quote Floyd R. Turbo) another thing: an historical note from my journal: "Having grown out my barbiche, this month I’ve begun leaving the hair below, the first time I’ve 'cultivated' anything on my chin in--well, 20 years. Not much to see there yet, though." My unimpressive mustache, however, dates back over a quarter-century!
